Microtonal variation measures how much a song bends pitch away from Western semitones (microtonal deviation in cents). Higher = more Carnatic/Indian ornamentation. Percentiles are within the song's decade: the raw measure falls over time (about 20 cents in the early 1990s, 13 in the 2020s), partly production and partly how older recordings measure, so each song is compared with its contemporaries.
